Japan is the world’s 2nd largest steel producing country as well as 2nd largest steel exporter.
As per recent data released by Japan customs it is observed that the nation has exported about 380,000 MT Billet in October 2017.
The exports have registered an increase of 15.15% (M-o-M) & 46.15% (Y-o-Y) in Oct’17 against Sep’17 & Oct’16 . Taiwan maintains top destination of Japan’s billet exports in October 2017 as the nation has imported approximately 36% billet (140,000 MT).
Coming to total exports in CY17 (Jan-Oct), the nation has exported about 3.27 MnT Billet; down by 8.14% as compared to 3.56 MnT in the same preceding last year.
Prior to this, in CY16 (Jan-Dec) the country’s billet export was around 4.26 MnT & in CY15 at 4.56 MnT.
Further in the month of October 2017, the crude steel production of Japan was around 8.97 MnT and in CY17(Jan-Oct) it was approximately 87.24 MnT.
Country wise:-
During Oct 2017, the largest importer of Japan made Billet/Blooms was Taiwan, South Korea & Thailand which imported 140,000 MT, 110,000 MT & 60,000 MT respectively.
Similarly in the total Billet exports during CY 2017 (Jan-Oct), the major buyers of Japan made Billet was – Taiwan (1.37 MnT), South Korea (0.98 MnT), United States (0.34 MnT), Thailand (0.26 MnT) & Philippines (0.13 MnT).
Key Updates
1. During Jan-Oct’17, Japan imported around 58.15% of iron ore from Australia, which was around 60.54 MnT. Meanwhile the import of iron ore in the same preceding last year stood at 65.08 MnT. Current offer of Fe 62% Fines are at USD 62/MT FoB Australia, from Dampier/Cape Lambert port
2. Japanese H2 grade ferrous scrap export prices at Yen 34,000/MT (USD 300-302/MT) FOB Japan
3. The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 460-470/MT FoB India & 125*125, Q235 China at USD 485-490/MT CNF Middle East.
