Japan begins provisional anti-dumping duty on Chinese, Taiwanese stainless steel imports

JapanMetalDaily: Japan has started imposing provisional anti-dumping (AD) duties on nickel-based stainless steel cold-rolled coils and sheets imported from China and Taiwan, effective 9 July, following the Cabinet’s approval of the measure on 3 July. The provisional duties will remain in force until 8 November 2026, pending the final outcome of the anti-dumping investigation.

Under the provisional measures, Chinese producers will face AD duties of 27.7% for five specified companies and 42.1% for all other manufacturers. For Taiwanese producers, the provisional duty has been set at 3.6% for six designated companies and 20.1% for other exporters.

The move follows Japan’s preliminary determination that imports of nickel-based stainless steel cold-rolled products from China and Taiwan were being dumped in the domestic market, potentially causing injury to the country’s stainless steel industry. The duties are expected to curb low-priced imports and provide temporary support to domestic stainless steel producers while the investigation continues.
