Indian iron ore imports moved up in Jan’16 and were recorded at 677,100 MT in Jan’16 against 294,600 MT in Dec’15.
JSW Steel remains the largest importer followed by Essar Steel. Four Gujarat based steel mills jointly imported a vessel of 90,000 MT.

Prices of imported lump from South Africa varied in the range of USD 48-51/MT, CFR Kandla in the month of Jan’16.
In Jan’16, prices of concentrate (Fe 66%) varied in the range of USD 44-46/MT, CFR China. Similarly prices of Brazillian fines (Fe 65%) were seen to hover in the range of USD 40-44/MT, CFR China last month.
Pellet imports to India continue to remain nil in Jan’16.
Indian iron ore imports reach 4.4 MnT
In this fiscal (till Jan’16) India has imported 4.4 MnT iron ore. South Africa continues to hold the largest share (77%) in Indian iron ore imports followed by Brazil and Australia.
