The Paradip Port’s coal handling in April 2011 surged by 11.01 per cent compared to March, sources said.* A total of 17,73,554 metric tonnes of coal was handled at the Port in April 2011 compared to 15,97,585 MT in the previous month, March. Out of the total coal handled at the Port in April, domestic thermal coal exported to Tamil Nadu accounted for 8,34,347 MT. The handling of imported thermal coal and imported coking coal in April stood at 351,519 MT and 587,688 MT respectively. The sources also informed that coal handling in April 2011 was also higher by 17.72 per cent compared to 15,06,588 MT in April last year.
