Iran’s Mobarakeh Steel to Build Stainless Steel Plant

Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) together with its subsidiaries, is the largest flat steel producer in the MENA region, supplying 20% of the region’s steel demand and accounting for 1% of Iran’s GDP. MSC is one of the largest exporter of steel in Iran, during the first nine months of current Persian year, the company has shipped a around 784,612 MT steel.

Dr. Bahram Sobhani, Managing Director of Mobarakeh Steel Company said that the company is considering the construction of a stainless steel plant in the Free Zone of the Southern Iran. If this plan is finalized then Mobarakeh Steel will operate it alone or with the participation of other steelmakers.

Dr Sobhani said “Till now, stainless steel is not produced in Iran hence technical and economic plans of stainless steel production have to be reviewed and accurately explained in terms of economic terms.

Prior to this, Bahram Sobhani had quoted as saying by Mobarakeh Steel to buy Oxin steel. He said in an interview that the purchase of Oxin steel shares was in line with the completion of the steel value chain.

MSC – Largest Producer and one of the largest exporter of Steel in Iran

MSC and its subsidiary Saba Steel had the largest share of production of finished steel with 4.47 MnT. Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 6.42 MnT of semi-finished steel and around 5.56 MnT of DRI in first 9 months of current Persian year.

MSC has shipped around 784,612 MT of hot- and cold-rolled, acid-washed, tin-plated, coated, checkered and galvanized flat steel during the first 9 months, down by 43% Y-o-Y. Hormozgan Steel Company subsidiary of Mobarakeh Steel Company exported 851,138 MT of slabs, registered a growth of 5% Y-o-Y.
