Khouzestan Steel Company (KSC) was the largest exporter during the first ten months of current Persian year (21 March-2017 till 20 January-2018), the company exported around 2.22 MnT steel during the period. The company witnessed a growth of around 46% Y-o-Y against 1.52 MnT steel exported last year same period.
Mohammad Keshani, CEO of KSC plant described the company’s operations and plans “The target for this year’s export of KSC is 2.2 MnT”, which is already been achieved by KSC according to data released by IMIDRO.
Bloom has the major share in KSC’s export, the company exported 967,262 MT in current Persian year, registered a growth of 150% Y-o-Y. Another major product exported by KSC during the period were billet and slab. The company exported 675,919 MT and 580,714 MT respectively.
As part of the 20-Year Vision Plan (2005-25), the Iranian steel industry aims to become the world’s sixth largest steelmaker by reaching an output capacity of 55 MnT per year by the deadline (2025).
KSC produced 3.6 MnT of steel last year and is targeting to reach 3.7 MnT by March 2018. After the launch of Shadegan steel company in current year, the annual capacity of the steel structure of KSC will reach 8 MnT.
KSC was the largest producer of billet and bloom in first 10 months of current Persian year (21 Mar’17-20 Jan’18), the company produced 1,994,598 MT of billet and bloom during the period, registered a growth of 6% Y-o-Y against 1,887,420 MT during the same period but last year. On parallel lines KSC produced 1,149,353 MT of slab during the period.
The CEO while unveiling KSC’s Development Strategy upstream and downstream said: Completion of KSC production chain has been the main goals of the company since its inception, as the completion of the production chain will have a significant impact on reducing production costs.
Mr Keshani added that there are low-downstream companies in Khouzestan province that can produce high-value added products such as special sheets but due to lack of liquidity and strategy, they only produce ordinary sheets. Purchasing these units by KSC or merging these partners with KSC will surely solve these problems and create high added value in the province.
