Iran: Trade Ministry to Focus More on Export

Iran, one of the largest steel exporter in MENA region has exported a total of 4.71 MnT of steel products during the 10 months of current Persian year (21 Mar’18 – 20 Jan’19) by registering a downfall of 19% Y-o-Y, as per the latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization.

Concerning about the decline in exports, recently Mr. Reza Rahmani, The Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade said that exports will be considered as a driving force behind the economic development of the country in the next Persian year (to start in 20 Mar’19).

Talking about the export barriers, Mr. Rahmani said, “public and private sectors of the government have established fair interaction among themselves and there is not any disagreement between them, under such circumstances, export barriers should be resolved completely.”

He assured that the ministry will focus on exports of metal and mineral sector in particular in the coming Iranian Persian year. He put the total production value in the mineral sector is around USD 20 Bn, of which USD 9 Bn was exported in the last Persian year (ended 20 Mar’18).

He went on to say that that more than USD 7 Bn worth of minerals have been exported in the 11 months of the current Persian year (21 Mar’18-20 Feb’19).

Mr. Rahmani added that neighboring countries are the potential market for Iranian export and stated, maintaining production level in the current situation is the main objective of the ministry.
