According to the data maintained by SteelMint, Iran has exported 1.32 MnT iron ore via bulk shipments in the eighth month of Iranian year (during 23rd Oct- 21st Nov’18). The exports witnessed 21% drop on monthly basis in Nov’18 as against Oct’18 exports at 1.67 MnT.
On yearly basis, the exports have witnessed 14% fall as compared to Nov’17 exports at 1.54 MnT.
For the duration Apr-Nov’18, the exports witnessed at 9.31 MnT, down sharply by 31% against 13.47 MnT during same duration last year (Apr-Nov’17).
India imports from Iran down 69% M-o-M
As per data, India imported 0.05 MT iron ore from Iran in Nov’18, down 69% on monthly basis as against 0.16 MnT a month ago.
China continued to be the largest importer of Iranian iron ore for Nov’18 at 1.27 MnT, contributing 96% of total Iranian export share. The export to China witnessed 14% decrease on monthly basis as against being 1.49 MnT a month before.

Iran crude steel production up 19% in Jan-Oct’18
According to WSA, Iran’s crude steel output for the duration Jan-Oct’18 witnessed at 20.59 MnT, up 19% as against being 17.30 MnT last year same duration. Iran crude steel production for the month of Oct’18 recorded at 2.07 MnT, up 11% as against Oct’17 exports.
Iran iron ore concentrate production increased 18% in Apr-Oct’18
As per IMIDRO, Iran’s iron ore concentrate production for Apr-Oct’18 increased 18% to 25.89 MnT as against 21.87 MnT for same duration last year. Iran’s Apr-Oct’18 pellet production witnessed rise of 12% to 3.22 MnT against 2.98 MnT for Apr’17-Oct’17.
According to Ardeshir Saad Muhammadi, Deputy Director IMIDRO Mining and Mining Industries Development, Iran’s crude steel capacity is likely to be expanded to 38 MnT p.a. by end of this year; it currently stands at 32 MnT p.a. Furthermore Iran plans to increase its crude steel capacity to 55 MnT p.a by 2025. Rising crude steel capacities will further escalate iron ore demand in country.
