Iran is set to develop its rail network for transporting minerals in coming years. The nation is facing a lot of difficulty in transporting raw materials and minerals from mines to steel industry. Majority of steel mills are dependent on road transport, which causes a lot of issue from truck operators. Inorder to eradicate this issue, IMIDRO is keen to develop Iran Railways so as to make the transport easy and hassle free.
Recently, Mr. Khodadad Gharibpour Head of IMIDRO’s Board of Directors met Mr. Saeed Mohammadzadeh Director of Iranian Railways and discussed about signing an MoU with the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR) to develop railroad infrastructure in Sangan region.
Mr. Gharibpour said “Encouraging private sector participation in creating infrastructure is among the mechanisms for developing railroad transportation for transporting minerals. He added a workgroup will be set up to take preliminary steps to draw up the MoU, to increase the share of railroad transportation in transiting cargos from Sangan region”.
It is to be noted that, Opal Parsian Sangan Iron ore mine, one of the major IMIDRO’s iron ore project is located in Sangan region. Opal Parsian Sangan iron ore mine produced 1.93 MnT iron ore concentrate and 2.47 MnT pellets during the eight months of current Persian year (21 mar-21 Nov’18).
He added that in last Persian year (21 Mar’17-20 Mar’18), the total amount of minerals loaded by IMIDRO amounted to 60 million tons, of which 20 million were carried by railroad.
Iran Exported 20,000 MT Steel to Turkey via Rail Route
Iran has recently exported steel to Turkey through rail route. As per sources, the nation has exported around 20,000 MT steel products (mainly rebars) to Turkey via railway within the past two months.
According to Mr. Shapour Arsalani, Director General of Azarbaijan Railways General Bureau, the shipment was loaded in the central provinces of Kashan and Isfahan, and was carried to Turkey via Mahabad station using 439 cargo wagons.
He concluded, “Plans are high on the agenda to export other products such as sea salt, coal and tar via Tabriz-Turkey railway. Currently, Iran sends these items to foreign markets using trucks
