Iran Crude Steel Production Decreases by 5% Y-o-Y

Iran, one of the largest crude steel producer in MENA has produced 2.23 MnT crude steel during Jan’19 as per the data released by World Steel Organization. Production was down by 5% Y-o-Y against 2.34 MnT produced during the same period of CY’18.

In CY’18, Iran produced around 25 MnT of crude steel, registered a growth of 18% Y-o-Y against 21.24 MnT produced in CY’17. According to the Iran’s steel vision, total steel production capacity is set to hit 55 MnT a year by 2025, with an expected exports figure of 10-15 MnT.

Iran Finished Steel Production in Current Persian Year

Iran produced around 9 MnT of finished steel products, including HRC and CRC, rebar, beams, pipes and galvanized sheets during the 10 months of current Persian year (21 Mar’18-20 Jan’19) by registering a growth of 3% Y-o-Y. In tenth month of Persian year, production of finished steel products stood at 0.79 MnT, registered a downfall of 12% Y-o-Y.

MSC and its subsidiary Saba Steel have produced 5.29 MnT finished steel, witnessed a growth of 6% Y-o-Y), followed by ESCO with 1.82 MnT up by 1% Y-o-Y, Oxin Steel Company with 0.52 MnT down by 14% Y-o-Y), Khorasan Steel Company with 0.47 MnT up by 8% Y-o-Y, Azarbaijan Steel Company with 0.29 MnT up by 46% Y-o-Y and IASCO with 0.21 MnT 0.20 MnT of rebar and 0.01 MnT other.

Other top producers were Ahvaz Rolling and Pipe Manufacturing Company (0.24 MnT), Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Automotive Sheet Company (0.19 MnT) and INSIG (0.05 MnT).

Currently, Iran’s steel production capacity stands at 34 MnT/pa, according to Deputy Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Jafar Sarqeini.
