Many induction furnaces in Maharashtra are on the verge of
shutting down due to higher power rates. The avg. industrial power rate in
Maharashtra is around Rs7-8/unit i.e. just double as compared to power
rates in neighboring states.
According to steel manufacturers in Maharashtra, “the
industrial power tariff has been revised 6 times in a year, thereby sharply raising
the production cost for steel. It is cost-effective and cheaper for us to shut down operations and to bring
steel from neighboring states as the cost of production was much less and the
sale prices were good.
