Indonesian thermal coal prices rose sharply today as miners are confronted with the obligation to cater to domestic demand. Miners in Indonesia have increased supplies to power plants to meet their annual requirements, although overall supplies remain constrained due to heavy rains. The price of GAR 6500 kcal/kg coal rose by $57/t w-o-w to $241/t. The war in Ukraine is forcing buyers to scout for Indonesian, South African and Australian cargoes.
