Indonesian Coal Prices Down; Indian Imports Up

Indonesian Coal FOB prices continued to remain on lower side during last 3 months.

SteelMint assessed that with lower international Coal demand and subdued international prices continue to pressure on Indonesian FOB Coal prices, which dropped by around 5-6% on an average considering 6 major trading grade of Indonesian Coal.

Indonesian 4,200 GAR Coal prices have declined almost 8.1% during last 3 month and trading at around USD 37/MT FOB. However, 4,800 GAR Coal prices again reached at same level of around USD 54/MT FOB during the period. The lower grade 3,600 GAR Indonesian Coal prices have dropped by 7.1% to USD 28/MT FOB in last 3 month.

China, the major Indonesian Coal buyer’s demand stayed on lower side, whereas the India’s pace of importing Coal has increased significantly. It’s noted that few crucial factors has prompted Indian buyer to book quantity by taking advantage of low prices and appreciated Indian currency.

Indian Coal imports also jumped by around 2% in Apr’14 to about 18 MnT due to pre-monsoon booking and it is expected to remain at same level in May month.
