Indonesian 5800 GAR coal price reaches historic high on improved demand

The Indonesian index for high-CV 5800 GAR coal rose by $6.5/t w-o-w to $114/t FoB, while other grades too recorded price hikes on a weekly basis. The rise in prices is majorly attributed to increased domestic demand from Indonesian power utility, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), which is heard to have less than 10 days of coal stocks left for use. On the other hand, seaborne enquiries for Indonesian coal are also quite high amid tight supply from Russia and South Africa thereby supporting prices. The price of 6500 GAR coal has climbed to $112.4/t, while 4200 GAR and 5000 GAR grades are selling at $69/t and $98/t respectively.
