PT Risun Wei Shan Indonesia, a coke producer backed by China’s Risun Group in the southeastern Asian country, has successfully commissioned its No.2 coke oven on 18 May 2024, the group revealed on its website.
The company now has four coke ovens in operation, with a 6combined capacity of 3.2 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
Located in the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) in Central Sulawesi province, Risun Wei Shan Indonesia is a joint venture established with an investment of $830 million from Risun.
The facility involves six 0.8-Mtpa top-charging coke ovens, each with a diameter of 7.1 meters and comprising 66 oven chambers.
Upon full operation, it will produce 4.8 million tonnes of coke annually, along with 220,000 tonnes of tar, 63,300 tonnes of benzene, 69,600 tonnes of ammonium sulphate, and 870 million cubic meters of coke oven gas.
These outputs will be supplied to industries in the park and beyond, as well as international markets including Southeast Asia, India, Japan, South Korea and Europe.
In August 2023, PT Risun Wei Shan Indonesia made its inaugural shipment of coke to Europe.
Risun has also exported Chinese coking coal to Indonesia, integral to Risun Wei Shan Indonesia’s global supply chain, enhancing the joint venture’s product competitiveness through significant cost advantages.
