Indonesia-based coal mining giant Bumi Resources Tbk PT (IDX: BUMI) stated that its mining operations continue to run normally despite the corona virus outbreak. The company’s corporate secretary Dileep Srivastava said on Sunday that production rate runs at about 7-7.5 million tons (MnT) per month.
In the two-month period of January-February this year, BUMI saw its coal sales volume increased by 9.16 percent to 14.3 MnT, as compared to 13.1 MnT in the corresponding period of last year.
“Export remains normal, and Indonesia remains Bumi’s largest market along with China and India”, he said.
Dileep said that the company has taken measures to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. So far, no company employee has been infected with the virus.
Dileep said in January that Bumi’s coal production this year was expected to increase by 5 percent to around 92 MnT. He saw its 2019 coal output increased by only 3.6 percent amid weak price of the commodity and uncertainty in the global coal market. Bumi’s coal production last year increased to 86.3 MnT from 83.3 million tons in the previous year. The production was contributed by subsidiaries PT Kaltim Prima Coal and PT Arutmin Indonesia.
Dileep said that the company plans to increase production his year by 5 percent to 90 million tons, with additional output from another subsidiary PT Pendopo Energi Batubara. Elsewhere, Dileep said that Bumi plans capital expenditure (capex) of USD 50 million-USD 60 million this year, relatively the same as last year.
