Thermal coal imports from S.Africa increased to 3.29 mn t in Sep’20 against 2.89 mn t in Aug’20 and by 8% at 3.06 mn t against September last year. The improved demand from sponge and power sector (in the coastal belt) ahead of festive season coupled with competitive import prices in international market gave a boost India’s coal imports from South Africa.
