SAIL lead steel industry consortium in India is planning to
set up a 6-MTPA steel plant in Afghanistan, involving in several mines and
railways and infrastructure for the steelmaking plant.
The consortium needs to spend US$ 11 billion in developing
mines, related constructions and setting up the plant.
However, since it's tough to get loans from banks, the
consortium would approach the government to fund the project.
The consortium led by Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL)
also includes major public & private utilities such as National Mineral Development Corporation
(NMDC), JSW Steel and another 4 steelmakers
