India’s Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) has won the bid to build 300 MW coal-fired power plant in Botswana. JSPL will fund the plant’s construction and recoup its investment by selling power to the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) on mutually agreed-upon terms. Morupule Coal Mine and Minergy’s Masama are the country’s only operating coal mines. South Africa exported around 53 mnt of coal in Jan-Oct’22.
