India’s finish-flat imports declined by 3% Y-o-Y to 5.82 MnT in CY’19, which was 5.97 MnT in CY’18, as per customs data maintained with SteelMint.
Competitive domestic prices as compared to the landed cost of imports, sluggish demand in the local market resulted in lower imports last year. Also, stockists and importers kept themselves away from making import bookings amid rumors on the imposition of safeguard duty.
However, the nation’s imports on a monthly premise surged by 50% to 0.39 MnT in Dec’19 in contrast with 0.26 MnT a month ago. SteelMint earlier reported that a booking of around 20,000 MT of HRC from South Korea at USD 480/MT CFR basis for Feb shipments.
Indian HRC/Plate imports down by 4% in CY’19- The nation’s HRC/Plate imports stood at 2.31 MnT in CY’19, declined by 4% as compared with 2.41 MnT in CY’18.
Indian electrical steel imports up by 5% to 1.7 MnT in CY’19 over 1.62 MnT in CY’18.
Galvanized steel imports registered an 8% decline to 1.28 MnT in CY’19 when compared with 1.39 MnT in the preceding year.
Meanwhile, imports of CRC slipped by 2% to 0.47 MnT in CY’19 as against 0.48 MnT in CY’18.
Imports from South Korea remain stable in CY’19- India’s finish flat imports volume from South Korea remained consistent at 2.73 MnT in CY’19 as against CY’18.
The nation’s imports from Japan increased by 6% to 1.05 MnT in CY’19, which was 0.99 MnT in CY’18.
Meanwhile, imports from China surged by 13% in CY’19 to 0.89 MnT as compared with 0.79 MnT in CY’18.
Imports at Mumbai port rise by 7% in CY’19- Flat steel imports at Mumbai increased by 7% to 2.11 MnT in CY’19, which was 1.98 MnT in CY’18.
Imports at the Chennai port inched down by 2% to 1.15 MnT in CY’19 as compared with 1.17 MnT in CY’18.
Meanwhile, imports at Mundra port stood at 0.76 MnT in CY’19 up by 12% over 0.68 MnT in CY’18.
Also, imports at Kandla port stood at 0.57 MnT, JNPT at 0.54 MnT, and Kolkata at 0.16 MnT, Dahej at 0.14 MnT in CY’19.
