India's imported coal demand has improved in past few weeks as power plants gear up stocking coal before monsoons, which usually starts from June. India is one of the largest buyer of sea borne coal, and has imported almost 127 million tonnes in FY 2013 (including coking and non-coking).
Indian importers mention that power plants tend to stock before monsoons as domestic coal production comes down. India's rising demand for thermal coal may lift coal offers from Indonesia and South Africa.
“Over all market has been good, demand is picking up specially due to monsoons. Also rise in power tariffs will benefit power plants across India.” said an importer based in Mumbai.
