Indian metallurgical coal imports rose by 14.56% to 4.85 million tonnes (MnT) in Jul’18, compared with 4.23 MnT in Jun’18, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.
On a year-on-year basis, the Jul’18 imports have increased 2.54% from 4.73 MnT in Jul’17.

Major Coal Exporters to India:
A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that Indian coking coal imports from Australia constituted the highest share, at around 78%.
Further, Indian met coal imports from Australia rose by 22.17% during the last month.
Following Australia, the imports from USA accounted for around 7% share.
Imports from Canada decreased by 53.73% to 0.19 MnT in Jul’18, compared with 0.41 MnT in Jul’18.

Among the various ports in India, the Paradip port had handled the highest volume of import traffic during the month of Jul’18; followed by the Dhamra and Gangavaram ports.
