The Minister further stated that currently total domestic production from all sources is not sufficient to cater domestic demand from power as well as other sectors. Therefore, the government has been taking initiatives to increase coal production as far as possible through facilitating environment & forest clearances.
The Central is pursuing development work with the state government for help in expediting land acquisition and coordinated effort with Railways for movement of coal. Steps have been taken by Coal India and its eight subsidiaries to augment coal production, which includes capacity addition from new projects and use of mass production technologies.
