Iron ore production by India’s captive mines has declined 12% Y-o-Y, from 50.09 MnT in FY14 to 43.89 MnT in FY15.
As per the data recorded by IBM (Indian Bureau of Mines) the 29 captive iron ore mines have registered a fall of about 6 MnT in iron ore production last fiscal. Fall has been on backdrop of mining suspension, which took place after the apex court decided to suspend all those mines which were running under second deemed renewal.
Biggest fall was seen in Odisha where captive iron ore production dropped by 19.5% Y-o-Y from 24.81 MnT in FY14 to 19.97 MnT in FY15. Production from Jharkhand has also declined by 2.17 MnT last fiscal.
Iron ore production by captive mines of Tata Steel reduced drastically and has fallen from 18.4 MnT in FY14 to 14.85 MnT in FY15. The mines were shut for about a period of 3 months owing to issue of renewal of leases.
India’s total iron ore production noticed a fall of around 25 MnT, which was recorded at around 127-129 MnT in FY15 against 152 MnT in FY14.
