India’s coking coal imports increased to 4.33 mn t in Sep’20, up 31.8% as against 3.29 mn t in Aug’20. Higher restocking demand from steel plants operating at optimum capacities resulted in a surge in imports. Improved demand from automotive and white goods sectors and moderate activity in government infrastructure projects is supporting steel demand in India.
