Indian Railway removes 7% surcharge on freight for iron ore exports

July 9,

Indian Railways has waived off a surcharge of 7% on freight charges for Iron ore exports.

Indian Railways had considered it a week back, but kept the freight charges unchanged.

Iron ore export is currently going through a rough phase; demand has lowered down in China, and high freight charges have left exporters with a very thin margin. Approx freight from Barbil to Paradip is Rs 2,200-2,300 /MT which will be around Rs 2,000-2,100 /MT after eliminating 7% surcharge.
