Indian ports to receive 3.6 mn t of thermal coal by 30 Sept’21

A total volume of 3.6 million tonnes (mn t) of thermal coal is scheduled to arrive at various ports in India by 30 Sept’21, CoalMint’s vessel line-up data (as on 1 Sept’21) reveals.

Imports from Indonesia continue to remain the highest, followed by South Africa and Australia.

With regard to vessels coming in from Indonesia by 30 September, the highest volume of 0.52 mn t is set to arrive for Agarwal Coal at Bhavnagar, Dharamtar, Jaigarh, Mangalore, and Navlakhi ports.

As for South African coal, Adani Enterprise booked the highest volume of 0.48 mn t, coming in at Dhamra, Gangavaram, and Mundra ports. This is followed by JSW Ispat and Bhushan Power with a combined volume of 0.16 mn t coming at Vizag Port.

A total of 0.15 mn t of Australian coal, on the other hand, is set to arrive for JSW Energy at Jaigarh Port, while 0.08 mn t will arrive for Reliance Industries, and 0.6 mn t for Hindalco Industries, CoalMint’s data shows.

Imports from both the countries Australia and South Africa have been declining since the last few months amidst rising prices.

Jaigarh Port to receive highest quantity of coal

Vessel arrivals at western ports continued to remain the highest with Jaigarh Port as the leading port receiving the highest volume of 0.18 mn t of thermal coal from Indonesia and 0.15 mn t each from Mozambique and Australia.

Kandla Port is set to receive the second-highest volume of thermal coal at 0.40 mn t while Navlakhi Port will receive 0.24 mn t of Indonesian thermal coal. Dahej Port will receive 0.14 mn t of Australian coal and 0.09 mn t of Indonesian coal.

Thermal coal vessel arrival at southern ports continues to remain the lowest. Krishnapatnam Port is set to receive 0.23 mn t of thermal coal from Indonesia, while Tuticorin will receive 0.21 mn t of Indonesian coal. Mangalore Port is set to receive 0.06 mn t of thermal coal from Indonesia.

There are no South African coal vessels scheduled to arrive at southern ports till 30 Sept’21, CoalMint’s data shows.
