Indian ports remain dry on lesser exports of iron ore & imports of coal; waiting period falls to 0-2 days

Indian ports remain dry on lesser imports of coal and exports of iron ore . Waiting period for vessels carrying iron ore and coal has reduced to 0-2 days.

Thanks to suspension of Iron ore from Karnataka, Goa and Odisha and falling rupee which has made coal imports expensive.

“Couple of months back, when markets were good and the movement of cargo was appropriate an exporter had to wait for 10-15 days at Paradip to get a berth, but now the are berths lying idle.” said an Indian exporter based at Bhubaneshwar (Odisha).

Situation is similar on other ports as well, for instance waiting period at Vizag is 1-2 days, at Gangavaram it is 1 day & at Haldia  it is 1-2 days.

Coal imports have fallen sharply as Rupee depreciates continuously to trade at all time low of 52.50.
