Indian Plates Export Offers Fail to Compete with Falling Global Prices

SteelMint has heard from its market sources that China’s plates export offers have registered a fall of USD 5/MT this week amid low buying interest.

Current offers for commercial grade plates are being heard at USD 345-350/MT, FoB basis.

The country’s domestic steel market is quite volatile currently due to which overseas buyers have adopted wait and see approach and will book orders only after some stability in domestic prices.

Plates offers from CIS countries have also registered a fall of USD 20/MT this week. Current offers for CIS-origin plates are assessed at USD 350-400/MT, FoB Black Sea.

India’s plates export offers are heard to be at USD 410-420/MT, FoB India basis, unchanged against last week. However no trade deals have taken place at these rates. The buying interest from overseas buyers is heard to be at USD 380-390/MT, FoB India basis.

India’s domestic plates prices have remained flat against last week. Current offers for commercial grade base size (16-20mm) plates are assessed at INR 28,000/MT (ex-works) excluding excise of 12.5%.
