Indian Petcoke Prices Go Up on Shortage, Higher Import Offers

Petcoke prices have gone up in India.

Domestic producers have revised their ex-works prices upwards in response to shortage and rising import offers.

Reliance Industries Limited, the largest producer in the country, has hiked its ex-works price by INR 500/MT to INR 4,650/MT. Essar, the country’s second largest producer, also has hiked its ex-works price by the same amount to INR 4,640/MT. The price increments are effective from 1 May’16.

The price increment could be regarded as the outcome of shortage and higher import offers in international markets. Shortage has prevailed in the country’s market due to strong demand. Also, import offers have gone up in key international markets due to supply disruptions.

According to the last assessment, offers of Petcoke (6.5% Sulphur) from USA have gone up to USD 51-52/MT CFR India. Offers of the material (9% Sulphur) from Saudi Arabia are at 45-46/MT CFR India, according to the importer. These offers pertain to the current import booking for delivery in May’16.
