As per the railway data tracked by SteelMint, pellet movement through railways increases in Jan’16 as compared to Dec’15. Total 130,900 MT pellets were moved via 34 rakes in Jan’16 as compared to Dec’15 which was 61,600 MT via 16 rakes.
Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, a major supplier of pellets in merchant market and having pellet capacity of 9 MnT, supplied only 15 rakes i.e. 57,750 MT pellet in Jan’16 against 19,250 MT pellets in Dec’15.
BPRL, one of the major pellet manufacturers having installed capacity of 4 MnT pa, supplied 46,200 MT pellets via 12 rakes in Jan’16. Meanwhile, Arya Iron & Steel Ltd, have also supplied 7 rakes i.e. 26,950 MT pellets in Jan’16.
Despite lesser offers by pellet makers, overall buying interest was seen weak by sponge manufacturers and steel makers. However, in a week time offers from Barbil region reached INR 3,000/MT (loaded into wagons).
