Indian Pellet Prices Show a Mixed Response

While majority of pellet plants in eastern and central India have kept pellet prices stable, pellet prices in southern India have witnessed marginal reduction.

Indian pellet makers hold offers amid major iron ore miners keeping their offers unchanged for August deliveries. Pellet is majorly used by sponge makers in India and prices are directly proportional to lump prices.

Eastern India: 

  1. Pellet prices remained almost stable. In Barbil, Arya Iron & Steel is offering Fe 63% pellets at INR 4,100/MT (loaded into wagons). Jindal Steel & Power has kept its sales closed as of now
  2. Jamshedpur pellet prices are at INR 4,300/MT
  3. Durgapur based pellet offers have reduced marginally and are currently at INR 4,600-5,000/MT (basic). Bulk bookings for pellet were not seen as buying remained weak amid further fall in prices of pellet sponge. P-DRI prices in Durgapur have fallen by INR 400/MT W-o-W

Central India: Pellet prices in Raipur have remained stable. Current offers are around INR 5, 200/MT (basic). Some pellet makers have kept their sales on hold as of now.

Southern India: At Bellary, Karnataka, pellet prices have witnessed reduction of about INR 100-150/MT. Fe 63% pellets are at INR 4,900/MT (basic). Prices have been cut in order to boost sales.

Trade-wise:

  1. Arya Iron & Steel supplied 4 pellet rakes to plants situated in West Bengal, Jharkhand & Uttar Pradesh
  2. Jindal Steel & Power supplied 2 rakes out of which 1 was supplied to Chhattisgarh based Prakash Industries
