Indian Pellet Exports Drop 32% in July

According to the vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint, Indian pellet exports for the month of Jul’18 witnessed a decline of 32% to 0.56 MnT, as against May’18 exports at 0.83 MnT in Jun’18. Availability of rakes in eastern India remained a constraint for material transport from plants to ports resulting in fall in export volumes.

Indian pellet export price assessment increased from USD 101/MT, FoB India in Jun’18 to USD 112/MT, FoB India in Jul’18.

On yearly basis, pellet exports decreased by 18% as compared to 0.68 MnT in Jul’17.
However, in the first four months (Apr-Jul) of FY’19 Indian pellet export moved up slightly to 2.39MnT as compared to 2.36MnT in the same period last year (Apr-Jul’17).

BRPL pellet exports increased significantly in Jul’18 -:

BRPL stood the largest exporter for the month of July’18 at 0.29MnT (up 26% M-o-M), accounting 51% of total Indian iron ore export share, followed by KIOCL at 0.17MnT (down by 30%), Jindal SAW at 0.06 MnT and JSPL 0.05 MnT.

India’s pellet exports to China decreased 32% M-o-M

China continued to be the largest importer of Indian pellet in Jul’18 with imports at 0.33 MnT, down 32% M-o-M as against 0.49 MnT in Jun’18. Vietnam stood the second largest importer at 0.06 MnT followed by South Korea at 0.06 MnT.

Port-wise Indian pellet exports -:

Pellet exports from Paradip port recorded highest in Jul’18 at 0.28MnT, down 36% M-o-M, followed by Mangalore port at 0.17 MnT (down 30% M-o-M) Dhamra port at 0.06 MnT (down 44% on monthly basis) and Mundra port at 0.05MnT (up by 10% M-o-M).
