Indian pellet exports registered a fall of around 22% in Jul’16. Total 387,370 MT pellets were exported in Jul’16, which was at 499,600 MT in Jun’16.
Essar Steel, BRPL and Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) has actively exported Indian pellets to China in Jul’16.
On a Y-o-Y basis, pellet exports witnessed a remarkable increase. In FY16, total 832,300 MT pellets were exported. However, in first four months of FY17, Indian pellet exports were registered at 1.22 MnT.
Indian pellet exporters are continuously receiving inquiries regarding pellet exports. Hike in pellet premium which usually stood at USD 17-18/DMT last year is now witnessed at USD 29/DMT has made Indian pellet competitive in the global market. In addition, the sudden rise in iron ore fines prices till USD 61/MT also provided support to Indian pellets to gear up.

In addition, few more east India based pellet makers are gearing up for exports. Rashmi Metalliks has recently concluded one export deal of around 50,000 MT- 60,000 MT pellet and Arya Iron and Steel is also under talks to conclude one pellet export deal.
