Indian pellet export shipments fell by 7% m-o-m in Jul’20 at 1.67 mn t, amid easing Brazilian supplies post resumption of Vale’s Itabira Complex in Brazil and Teluk Rubiah terminal in Malaysia.
Heightened tension between India and China kept Chinese buying interest low in early Jul’20. On the other hand, tight availability and high domestic prices in India resulted in a shift of interest of pellet makers towards the domestic market.
However. on a yearly basis, exports picked up by 39% compared with 1.20 mn t in June’19.
Indian pellet exports to China up 5% in July’20
China remained the largest importer of Indian pellet in July’20 at 1.59 mn t, up by 5% from 1.51 mn t in June’20.
BRPL pellet exports hit all time high in Jul’20
BRPL was the largest pellet exporter for the month at 0.40 mn t , up 44% m-o-m, followed by Rashmi Metaliks at about 0.31 mn t (up 11% m-o-m) and JSPL at 0.26 mn t.

Paradip port accounted for 39% of total monthly export
In July’20, Paradip port was the largest exporter at 0.65 mn t, up by 6% compared with 0.61 mn t a month ago in June’20. Dhamra port was the second largest exporting port at 0.43 mn t followed by Gangavaram at 0.18 mn t and Haldia at 0.14 mn t.
