Stagnant demand and no safeguard duty on MS plate have led to stability in plate prices since 1-month.
MS plate prices have remained unchanged since September owing to lack of movement in domestic demand.
Current offers for 5-10 mm MS plate (grade IS2062) are assessed at INR 28,000-28,500/MT, ex-factory, INR 29,500-30,500/MT, delivered to Delhi and INR 29,500/MT, delivered to Chennai. All prices are excluding excise of 12.50%.
Although, primary steel manufacturers have kept their plate offers unchanged, secondary players have lowered down their prices.
Current offers for plate of upto 65 mm (grade:IS2062) are assessed at INR 25,000-25,500/MT, for 66-95 mm at INR 25,600-25,900/MT and for above 96 mm at INR 26,500-26,700/MT. All prices are on ex-Mumbai basis, excluded excise of 12.50%.
Chinese offers for commercial (S250 equivalent to A36) quality MS plate of size 8-150 mm are in the range of INR 290-295/MT, CNF India for December shipments.
MS plates are used majorly in ship building industry and for industrial applications. As both the areas are currently facing sluggish demand, it is anticipated that prices are likely to remain stable in coming month.
