Indian Met Coke Imports Down by 40% in Mar’19

Indian metallurgical coke imports have tumbled by 40% to 0.25 million tonnes (MnT) in Mar’19, as compared to 0.43 MnT in Feb’19, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

Moreover, on Y-o-Y basis, Met Coke imports have also decreased by 48% from 0.49 MnT which was recorded in the month of Mar’18.

Country Wise Indian Met Coke Import in Mar’19:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the shipments originated from Poland, accounting for 25% share.

Notably, Indian met coke imports from Russia declined by 72% M-o-M to 0.02 MnT in Mar’19, against 0.10 MnT in Feb’19.

Met Coke imports from China which constituted 18% shares of totaled Indian Met coke imports, declined by 33% to 0.0.4 MnT in Mar’19 as compared to 0.07 MnT in Feb’19.

Imports from Japan have also seen a decline of 3.7% M-o-M to 0.04 MnT in Mar’19, against 0.05 MnT in Feb’19. Japan contributed 19% of the share in total Indian met coke imports.

Colombia constituted 13% shares of the Indian met coke imports in the month of Mar’19.
