Indian Met Coke Imports Down by 14% in May’19

Indian metallurgical coke imports have shown a downfall of 14% in May’19. Met coke imports were recorded as 0.36 million tonnes (MnT) in May’19, as compared to 0.42 MnT in Apr’19, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

Moreover, on a Y-o-Y basis, Met Coke imports have also decreased by 30.7% from 0.52 MnT which was recorded in the month of May’18.

Country Wise Indian Met Coke Import in May’19:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the shipments originated from China, accounting for 26% share. Imports from China showed a decrease of 32% on M-o-M basis in the month of May’19.

Imports from Russia have also seen a tremendous decrease of 32.8% M-o-M to 0.08 MnT in May’19, against 0.12 MnT in Apr’19. Russia contributed 24% of the share in total Indian met coke imports and remained the second largest country to exports met coke to India.

Met Coke imports from Poland which constituted 23% shares of totaled Indian Met coke imports have shown a tremendous increase of around 27.6% to 0.08 MnT in May’19 as compared to 0.065 MnT in Apr’19.

Egypt constituted 8% shares of the Indian met coke imports in the month of May’19.
