Indian Met Coke Import Rises by 30% in Feb’16

India, one of the significant buyer of Chinese Met coke, imported about 30% more coke in Feb’16. The total quantity imported in initial 11 months touched at 2.9 MnT.

SteelMint surveyed that India, one of the significant buyer of Chinese Met coke, imported total about 0.34 MnT of material in Feb’16. Chinese Met coke dominated the imports, the country represented about 28% of the aggregate Met coke import in the month.

India imported about 0.25 MnT of Met coke from China and the rest of the quantity was traded by nations such as Poland and Japan. Remarkably, the nation’s coke import jumped up by about 30% in a month’s time.

It is to be noted that in order to safeguard domestic coke producers, Indian Metallurgical Coke Manufacturers Association (IMCOM) on behalf of indigenous producers had applied for instigation of investigation for imposing anti-dumping duty on LAM coke exported from China and Australia on 30 Dec’15. And, as per concerns, the result is anticipated till the end of May’16.
