Indian iron ore production at 245 mn t in FY ’20

Odisha was the biggest contributor at a whooping 145 mn t to India’s total iron ore production of around 245 mn t. However, SteelMint noticed that supply of high-grade Fe 63% ore has been reducing, over time, from the Odisha miners who are now habitually selling 62% or even 60-61%. This reduction in availability of high grade ore has become a concern in Odisha. On the other hand, however, NMDC has been maintaining its fines at a minimum Fe 64% and the Karnataka sector is supplying Fe 62-65% as the maximum range.
