As per SteelMint’s analysis, iron ore movement across major producing states of the country recorded an increase of 5% in FY’18 to 124.4 MnT as against 118. MnT in FY’17. The figures are compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, and Karnataka e-auction data. The figures indicated do not include the captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel and Goa-auction, export movement for exports and imports.
State-wise iron ore movement analysis:
Iron ore dispatches from Odisha increased 7% in FY’18-:
Iron ore dispatches from Odisha have witnessed an increase of 7% in FY’18 to 69.94 MnT as compared to 65.17MnT in FY’17. Major destinations for Odisha iron ore were – Odisha (37.22MnT), West Bengal(11.96MnT), Chhattisgarh (8.51 MnT) and Jharkhand(4.77 MnT).
Rungta Mines dispatched the highest quantity of iron ore 20.9 MnT in FY’18 followed by Serajuddin at 7.51 MnT (down by 18%), KJS Ahluwalia 7.07 MnT (up 28%) and OMC at 5.83MnT (up 12%).
Odisha iron ore dispatches increased in Mar’18 post resumption of operations at mines like Serajuddin, Essel Mining – Koira and Jilling which were suspended over SC order on penalty payment.
Chhattisgarh Iron ore dispatches fell in FY’18-:
Iron ore dispatches from, Chhattisgarh recorded a decline of 3% to 19.19 MnT in FY’18 as compared to 19.75 MnT in FY’17. Major destinations for Chhattisgarh iron ore were – Andhra Pradesh (15.06 MnT), Chhattisgarh (1.83 MnT) and Maharastra (2.83 MnT). NMDC’s total production from Chhattisgarh mines for FY’18 (Apr’17- Mar’18) recorded at 23.5 MnT, up 7% against 22.03 MnT in FY’17.
Karnataka iron ore dispatches increased marginally in FY’18-:
The iron ore dispatches from Karnataka e-auctions recorded a slight increase to 28.06 MnT in FY’18 as compared to 27.52 MnT in FY’17. Major destinations for Karnataka iron ore were – Karnataka (25.95 MnT), Andhra Pradesh (1.08 MnT).
Jharkhand Iron Ore movement increased significantly in FY’18-:
The iron ore dispatches from Jharkhand recorded a sharp increase of 19% to 6.65 MnT in FY’18 as compared to 5.57 MnT in FY’17. Major destinations for Karnataka iron ore were – West Bengal (2.24MnT), Jharkhand (1.75MnT), C.G (1.25MnT), and Odisha (0.7MnT).
