Iron ore movement (excluding exports) across major producing states of the country was recorded at 9.29 mn t in Feb’21, down by 15% m-o-m, as against 10.97 mn t in Jan’21. The figures are compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, Karnataka and import data as per customs. The figures exclude the captive iron ore movement of JSW (Gonua & Narayanposhi), SAIL, Tata Steel and movement for exports. The figure includes movements from JSW Steel (Jajang & Nuagaon), AMNS and Sarda Mines.
State-wise iron ore movement analysis:
Dispatches from Chhattisgarh dropped by 4% in Feb’21: Iron ore dispatches from Chhattisgarh were recorded at 2.5 mn t in Feb’21, down by 4% against 2.60 mn t in Jan’21.
Odisha iron ore dispatches down by 26% in Feb’21: Odisha- India’s largest iron ore producing state recorded merchant iron ore dispatches at 4.48 mn t in Feb’21, down by 26% against 6.03 mn t in Jan’21.The figures exclude movements for export and dispatches from captive mines- SAIL, JSW (Gonua &Narayanposhi) & Tata Steel and include dispatches from Sarda Mines, JSW Steel (Jajang & Nuagaon) & AM/NS, India.
A couple of non-auctioned miners have exhausted their EC limit for this fiscal which has slightly tightened availability of lumps in Odisha merchant market, SteelMint learned from sources. However, increased output from other auctioned mining leases, OMC’s initiation of iron ore auction from Guali and Jilling mines is likely to balance out the monthly volumes of production and dispatches.
Karnataka iron ore e-auction sales goes up in Feb’21:The total allotted quantity in Feb’21 was recorded at 2.26 mn t, registering a rise of 3% compared to 2.20 mn t in Jan’21, as per data compiled by SteelMint.
Indian iron ore imports in Feb’21: Iron ore imports to India for the month of Feb’21 were recorded nil against 0.14 mn t in Jan’20. The pellet imports stood at 0.05 mn t as against nil a month ago.
Indian iron ore export volumes down 3% in Feb’21:Indian iron ore and pellet export shipments were recorded at 4.76 mn t in Feb’21, down 3% against 4.89 mn t in Jan’21.
Indian iron ore export shipments were recorded at 3.97 mn t in Feb’21, largely stable as compared to 3.98 mn t in Jan’21, according to vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint. Rungta mines was the largest iron ore exporter at 0.76 mn t in Feb’21 against 1.05 mn t in Jan’21. Vedanta was the second-largest exporter at 0.35 mn t, followed by Kashvi Power and Steel at 0.33 mn t
Indian pellet export shipments were recorded at 0.79 mn t in Feb’21, as per data maintained with SteelMint.Kalinga Metaliks Limited was the largest pellet exporter in Feb’21 at 0.18 mn t, up 28% against 0.14 mn t in Jan’20. BRPL stood second largest exporter at 0.16 mn t followed by Bagadiya Brothers at 0.13 mn t.
