Iron ore export from India increase by 25% in FY16: Iron ore export from India has gone up by 25% Y-o-Y in FY16 and stood at 6 MnT against 4.8 MnT in FY15. Measures like reduction in export duty of NMDC & low grade ore and reduction in freight charges strengthened exports in this fiscal. Major highlights are as follows:
- Goa iron ore exports jump sixfold in FY16: Goa iron ore export which was observed at 0.6 MnT in FY15 moved up to 3.8 MnT in FY16. Among Goan iron ore miners, largest exporter was Vedanta at 2.3 MnT followed by Fomento Resources (0.7 MnT) and Royalline Resources (0.5 MnT)
- NMDC exported 1.1 MnT iron ore- NMDC which exports iron ore under MMTC to South Korea & Japan under its Long Term Trade Agreement (LTA ) exported 1.1 MnT in FY16 against 2.4 MnT in FY15. Reason behind fall in export was delay in renewal of its LTA which was renewed later in Jun’15
Indian iron ore import fall by 63% in FY16: Iron ore import to India which stood 15.1 MnT in FY15 has plunged to 5.6 MnT in following fiscal. Improved and cheaper domestic iron ore availability resulted in reduced imports. JSW Steel remained the largest importer at 1.6 MnT followed by Essar Steel (0.9 MnT) and Kamachi Group (0.7 MnT)
Pellet exports stable, imports drop in FY16-Indian pellet export remained stable on yearly basis and stood at 0.8 MnT in FY16. Pellet imports to India dropped from 0.5 MnT in FY15 to 0.2 MnT in FY16.
