Indian Importer files Petition against Non-clearance of Imported Rebar

Indian importer has filed a petition in the MP High Court against notice issued by the central government on 7 Nov’14, regarding mandatory clearances from Bureau of India standards (BIS) for all import of steel.

Anik Industries, having registered office in Indore, has filed a petitioner in the MP High Court (Indore) against non-clearance of Rebar imported from China.

Custom commissioners in Chennai & Mumbai have not cleared the cargo imported from China on the basis of the central government’s notice, which make BIS mandatory for all type of imports.

Recently, various Indian Steel producers have also urged the Finance Ministry to impose higher import duty on rising of steel imports especially from China in the upcoming budget. Currently, import duty on Long steel product is 5%.

7 Nov’14 Order: Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) under Ministry of Finance on 7 Nov’14 had issued an order to all custom officials to strictly check on all Indian ports whether imported Rebar are according to BIS norms or not. Chinese Steel exporters are taking advantage on the rebate given by the government.
