Indian HRC Imports Inch Up in July

According to recent customs data released, imports of HRC moved up by 8% to 0.27 MnT in Jul’18 which was 0.25 MnT in Jun’18.Japanese & South Korean mills had reduced HRC export offers by USD 10-15/MT for July which resulted in increased bookings. Also the landed cost were at par with the prevailing Indian domestic prices  which boosted bookings.

However, India imported 0.03 MnT of CRC in Jul’18 less by 40% M-o-M as compared to 0.05 MnT in Jun’18. Meanwhile imports of electrical steel decline by 13% to 0.14 MnT in Jul’18 as compared to 0.16 MnT in previous month. Imports of galvanized steel also witness growth by 8% in Jul’18.

Total Indian flat steel imports witness marginal decline in Jul’18- On monthly basis nation’s flat steel imports stood at 0.58 MnT in Jul’18 in comparison with 0.6 MnT in Jun’18.On yearly basis, nation’s flat steel imports slumped by 17% in Jul’17 against 0.7 MnT in Jun’17.

During first seven months of CY18 (Jan-Jul),nation’s flat steel imports stood at 3.48 MnT higher by 5% against 3.32 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.

Imports from South Korea decline by 14% M-o-M in Jul’18- Imports from South Korea stood at 0.25 MnT in Jul’18 lower by 14% against 0.29 MnT in Jun’18.

However imports from Japan stood at 0.10 MnT in Jul’18 plunged by 17% against 0.12 MnT in Jun’18.

Also imports from China witness fall by 40% to 0.06 MnT in Jul’18 which was 0.10 MnT a month ago.

Flat steel imports at Chennai port increased sharply – Flat steel imports at Chennai port increased by 33% to 0.12 MnT in Jul’18 against 0.09 MnT in Jun’18.Indian flat steel imports at Mundra port stood at 0.05 MnT in Jul’18 fell by 17% in comparison to 0.06 MnT in Jun’18.

Other major ports include JNPT at 0.05 MnT in Jul’18 up by 25% against 0.04 MnT in Jun’18.Imports at Kandla port stood at 0.05 MnT in Jul’18 against 0.11 MnT a month ago.

Major flat steel importers in Jul’18-POSCO Maharashtra Steel Pvt.Ltd was the major flat steel importer and has imported 86,414 MT in Jul’18.Other major flat steel importers were Maan Industries India Limited,ASA Industrial Corporation followed by Hyundai Steel India Pvt Ltd. and Jindal India Limited.
