Indian Government to allocate 36 Coal Blocks to Public Sector

Today, the Indian government has commenced the allotment process of cancelled coal blocks. The ministry has initiated with 36 coal blocks, which will be allocated to PSU’s.

After the announcement of auction and allocation of cancelled coal blocks, the government has taken many vital steps to complete the allotment and auction in a proper manner. Currently, the ministry has issued notification for allotment of 36 coal blocks to power sector, out of which one mine will be reserved for steel sector.

Out of 36 coal blocks, the ministry has already been disclosed the list of 17 blocks, to be allocated under Schedule II and rest 19 blocks will be updated by the government further.

Coal Secretary stated, “The ministry is issuing procedure for these coal blocks. More mines would be added subsequently depending on the requirement and request will receive from the PSU’s and state entities.”

He added that the companies, which have already linked with these mines, will have to surrender.

The government has disclosed the list of auction; 23 blocks under schedule II (in production) and another 23 in Schedule III (ready to produce) and the list of 17 coal blocks, which will be allotted to public power sector

The government has started auction process with 42 mines in schedule II and 32 mines in schedule III. Subsequently, 27 mines were transferred from schedule I to schedule III, thereby taking the number to 101. Currently in the auction of schedule II, 87 distinct bidders have purchased 224 forms, while in Schedule III; the companies have so far purchased 82 forms.
