As per the latest data released by customs, India’s finish flat steel imports inched up by 2% in Aug’19 to 0.6 MnT as against 0.59 MnT a month ago.
Meanwhile, on yearly premise, the same surged up by 22% in Aug’19 as compared to 0.49 MnT in Aug’18.
During the first eight months (Jan-Apr)CY’19, the nation’s finish flat imports grew by 8% and stood at 4.3 MnT in comparison to 3.98 MnT in corresponding months of the previous year.
Indian HRC/ Plate import volume fell by 4% M-o-M in Aug’19- Import volumes of HRC/Plate to India witnessed a marginal decline of 4% in Aug’19 to 0.26 MnT which was 0.27 MnT in Jul’19. Rumors of imposition of safeguard duty along with subdued demand in domestic market reduced HRC/Plate imports in Aug’19.
Meanwhile Galvanized steel imports declined by 8% to 0.11 MnT in Aug’19 against 0.12 MnT in the preceding month.
Imports of electrical steel witnessed uptrend by 6% in Aug’19 to 0.17 MnT which was 0.16 MnT in Jul’19.
Meanwhile, import volumes of CRC stood at 0.06 MnT in Aug’19 as against 0.04 MnT in the preceding month.
Imports from Japan plunged by 14% in Aug’19- Import volumes from Japan plunged by 14% and stood at 0.12 MnT in Aug’19 as against 0.14 MnT in the preceding month.
Meanwhile on a monthly basis imports from China remained stable and accounted for 0.08 MnT in Aug’19 over the previous month.
However flat steel import volumes from South Korea stood at 0.32 MnT in Aug’19, increased significantly by 39% in comparison to 0.23 MnT in the previous month.
Meanwhile, Taiwan, Indonesia, Germany, Ukraine, and Russia also exported flat steel products to India in small quantities in Aug’19.
Flat steel imports at Mumbai port down by 4% in Aug’19- Flat steel imports at Mumbai port stood at 0.22 MnT in Aug’19, marginally down by 4% M-o-M basis as compared to 0.23 MnT in the previous month.
However, imports at the Chennai port spiked by 44% and stood at 0.13 MnT in Aug’19 in comparison with 0.09 MnT in Jul’19.
Imports at JNPT remained stable on a monthly basis at 0.05 MnT in Aug’19.
Meanwhile, import volumes at Kandla port stood at 0.07 MnT in Aug’19, ascended by 17% as against 0.06 MnT in Ju1’19.
