Indian imports of ferrous scrap registered sharp decline month-on-month during Sep’16.
As per the recent data maintained by SteelMint, the ferrous scrap imports by India during the month of Sep’16 dropped sharply by 17% over the previous month. It is the sixth consecutive month that the steel scrap imports have noticed a downfall.
The country’s total scrap imports during Sep’16 amounted to 271,000 MT. The imports were down sharply by 17% as compared to Aug’16, which were recorded at 326,000 MT. Indian Scrap Imports for a period of Jan-Sep’16 totaled 4,291,000 MT.
During Sep’16, UAE was the largest scrap exporter to India. The scrap imports from UAE totaled 48,283 MT.
The second largest exporter of scrap to India was the UK. The scrap imports by the country from the UK totaled 43,289 MT. In third place was US with supply volume of 34,593 tons.
