Spot price of Ferro Silicon in India climbed up on limited supply due to the SAIL tender for purchase of 9,200 MT of Ferro Silicon and on account of the Rupee depreciation there is greater parity in exports, resulting to a rise in offer prices in the domestic market.
Current price of Ferro Silicon (65-70) is Rs. 66,500 in Guwahati. In Bhutan Ferro Silicon (70-75) is being offered in the range of Rs. 68,000 – 69,000. Prices mentioned are basic.
A source at one of the major Ferro Silicon producers in Bhutan revealed “The reason for a sharp rise in prices was primarily due to the expected rise in power tariffs; hence Ferro Silicon producers do not wish to conclude deals as it will not be feasible to supply material at existing rates.” Power tariff in Bhutan is expected to be hiked by 10-15% per unit, which currently stands at Rs. 2 /unit.
