Indian DRI, billet, rebar update – 25 May

  • Trading activity improves d-o-d in most of the regions
  • Manufacturers try to raise prices or keep them stable

India’s induction furnace (IF) steel prices showed mixed trends d-o-d across regions on 25 May 2026.

Sponge iron prices increased by INR 50-300/t d-o-d, with the sharpest rise of INR 300/t to INR 26,300/t.

Billet prices climbed up by INR 100-750/t d-o-d across locations, with the highest increase of INR 750/t recorded in Raigarh, where prices reached INR 38,950/t.

Rebar (Fe 500) prices varied by INR 200-500/t d-o-d. Prices fell the sharpest in Chennai by INR 500/t to INR 48,000/t.

Today, there was a slight improvement in trading activities d-o-d in some markets, continuing the upward momentum from Saturday. Moderate trading activity was recorded, supported by improved sales activities in both finished and semi-finished steel segments. Manufacturers attempted either to keep spot offers stable or raise prices. However, the market remains under pressure due to elevated inventories. Considering the current market scenario, prices are likely to move within a narrow range this week.

The conversion spread from sponge iron (PDRI) to billets for the standalone induction furnaces in the Raipur cluster was assessed at INR 14,250/t.
